36 Views of Mt Taranaki Photo Book

Barney Brewster’s second photo book follows this landmark mountain through the seasons.  People frequently compare Mt Taranaki to Japan’s famous Mt Fuji, but this is the first photo book ever for Taranaki’s singular peak. It is a personal appreciation of the mountain of his youth.

Formerly known as Mt Egmont, the mountain is surrounded by Egmont National Park which includes two nearby old volcanic ranges. The park is the province’s premier tourist attraction.  The peak dominates the Taranaki landscape and is responsible for the regions famed fertility. A stratovolcano, Mt Taranaki’s last big eruption was  around 1755, not long before Caption James Cook first saw and named the peak.

The book is in softcovers, 21 x 22.5cm, with white wire binding. The first edition is just 50 copies, each signed. There are 76 pages, one image to a spread. It is entirely in colour, and shows the mountain in its landscape from a variety of viewpoints, by day and night.

36 Views of Mt Taranaki will appeal to anyone with strong Taranaki associations – visitors and residents alike. $36 post-free in NZ/AUS.
